Windows 8 is the latest version of Microsoft Windows - the world's most popular operating system for personal computers, and is significantly different from previous versions. In effect, it is two operating systems in one: One for desktop PC and laptop users, and one for users of touch screen mobile devices. Right from the start, Windows 8 has a very different look and feel to it when compared with previous versions such as Windows 7, Vista or XP. The Start Button has been replaced by the Start Screen, and new features like Tiles, Apps and Charms have been introduced.
